The lovely Ms. Harkness

A Discovery of Witches has spent the past few days in the Top 10 Bestsellers on Amazon (and demand is so high that orders are taking a few extra days to process as copies of the book are located) so it hardly needs my help in the publicity department. That said, I know many of you expressed interest in the book when I linked to my review earlier this month, so I have an added treat for those of you who are still on the fence (or who have already devoured the book and are going through withdrawal): I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Deborah Harkness for BookPage and my Q&A with her is now available online and can be read here. Talking to Deborah was such a pleasure — we wound up talking for 75 minutes, and the time just flew; Deborah was so warm and her answers were so thoughtful. I got lots of details on how the series evolved (as well as some hints about its future directions), Deborah's approach to reading and writing, and plenty of other juicy details so have at it and let me know what you think!

Steph, I suspect you will be very happy to hear that I now have an ARC of A Discovery of Witches, thanks to your recommendation. A new indie bookseller in our area was doing a galley giveaway in honor of their grand opening tonight, and it was on the giveaway table. The really funny part is that I spotted it under another book and was reaching for it when the person I was talking to also spotted it and shouted out the name. I figured I was reaching for before she said anything, which meant I had dibs.

Now the big question is whether I can hold myself to the TBR Dare until April 1 while I have this new treasure in my possession.

That was a really riveting interview, Steph, and Harkness comes across as so composed and knowledgeable. If possible, this interview makes me want to make time for this book even more so than before, which is a hard thing to do! Thanks for sharing this link with us. I had a wonderful time reading Harkness’ thoughts on her book.

@ Teresa: Yaaaaaay! I really think you’ll love this book, and the way you came across it is just wonderful as well! If there’s any book worth taking a break from one’s TBR dare, I would say this is it! 😀
@ Mystica: So glad you enjoyed it!
@ zibilee: I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on this book. I think you’ll really enjoy it… I hope you read it soon so we can gush about it together! 😀

What a wonderful and enlightening interview Steph! I am particularly happy that Deborah Harkness is a big fan of Anne Rice and Buffy just like me:) I also thought her use of genetics to explain the differences between the supernatural species pretty interesting and different from what others have written.

Steph, I will be checking out your interview next. I need to get my hands on a copy of this one – I remembered your post about it and it sounds like a book I will enjoy. That’s awesome that you chatted so much with the author, I’m really looking forward to reading the interview, so I’m heading there now.

@ sakura: So glad you enjoyed the interview! I admit that Deborah and I bonded over our mutual love of Buffy during the interview! 😀
@ Nadia: I really think you’d love this book a lot! There are so many elements in it that there is truly something for everyone in it.
