8th November
written by Steph

This is us celebrating Tony turning 28, but don't worry, our blog doesn't know any better...

So, Steph and Tony Investigate! turned two... on November 2. Oops! Life has been so busy that the day came and went without Tony or I realizing the significance. I mean, now that our blog is in its terrible twos, we should have commemorated the transition by trashing our apartment or getting rip-roaring drunk or BOTH! Certainly anything but letting the day pass in silence! But really, what would this little site be without you, or loyal readers who have stuck with us as we first began to figure out this crazy thing called blogging, and have watched us take our first few steps out into the world, watching us trash bad books and movies (while also celebrating the good ones!), and eat decadent food along the way? You know, just like toddlers do. So, to celebrate having successfully made it through two whole years of blogging, we want to give you some gifts... because we are both crazy and generous like that. And humble. To thank you for sticking by us and making us feel like we're doing something right, we'd like you to investigate our archives. Pick any book there that we've reviewed in any capacity (yes, BookPage reviews count!) and tell us which one you would like and why! We'll use a random number generator (or magic) to pick a winner and will send said person the book of their choosing. Because you can't spell "Party" without "Free Book"! Have fun reliving our glory days, because it's all downhill from here... Just kidding! πŸ˜‰ The deets
  • Contest will run until midnight on the evening of Sunday, November 14
  • To enter, leave a comment on this post letting us know what book we have reviewed that you would like and why
  • Giveaway is open to anywhere The Book Depository ships... I'm not American, and Tony's not Canadian, so we love all citizens of the world equally well
That's it! Let us buy you a free book, won't you? [P.S. This post will be sticky for the duration of the giveaway, so be sure to scroll down for new content throughout the week!]

Yay! So glad that you are two now! It’s funny how time flies in respect to the blogging, and I have often found myself musing about how long I have been doing this. I so look forward to your posts, and know that I am always going to get a fair and honest review from you guys. You can’t say that about every site out there, and I find myself really appreciating your candor when it comes to book reviews, even when our opinions are polar opposites. Congratulations on the blogoversary. I hope there are many more years left to go!

  2. 11/08/2010

Congratulations and thank you for all the happy fun you always bring in addition to the very smart, very fair book reviews. If I had to name a book from your past that I really want but do not have it would be Man Walks Into a Room by Nicole Krauss. I love people that celebrate by giving others presents! Many thanks.

  3. 11/08/2010

Congratulations on passing the two year mark! And keep up the good work – I love your blog, especially the variety of books you read and honest write-ups plus we get to check out what you’ve been cooking too. As for the prize draw, I have my eye on ‘The Writing Class’ by Jincy Willett.

  4. Zoe

    Happy blog birthday!

I’d love We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver, I have the post-birthday world by her and I haven’t read it yet but it looks amazing and I have heard great things about this book.

  5. 11/08/2010

Congratulations and all the very best to you both! Thank you for the giveaway and for being so generous. I would like to have Under the Poppy!

  6. Kathleen

Congratulations on your blogiversary. I’d enter the giveaway but am trying to read what I have before I take on any more!

  7. 11/08/2010

Well happy belated you guys! I think it was about this time last year that I stumbled across your blog. Once again, your giveaway is generous, but this year I’m going to decline to enter because there are very few books out there left that I want to actually own, and those are all going on the rather skimpy Christmas list! πŸ˜€

  8. JoV

Happy blogoversary! Thank you for the joy you bring and talking about everything under the sky besides books.

I’d like to enter for the giveaway and you would make my dream come true if I could have “Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut”. πŸ˜€

  9. 11/08/2010

Congratulations! I don’t need another book but I did want to join the others in saying how glad I am you two blog!

  10. 11/08/2010

Happy blogiversary! I’d buy you a drink, but your blog is underage. πŸ˜€

I have to play, simply because Jane Eyre is in your archives, and I’m determined to read it next year!

  11. wishing you a happy belated!! i have forgotten my blogging anniversary for a few years running now–i started in december 2007. πŸ™‚

as for your reviews–i love the bad ones best of all! i adore how you’re not afraid to say it like it is and to support your reasons for disliking a book. a recent fave? jennifer johnson is sick of being single!

  12. Congratulations on your blogiversary! Mine was in September and I forgot all about it!

Thank you for your generous offer, but I have a massive pile of books waiting to be read so I’ll pass the chance of a wonderful book on to someone else πŸ™‚

I love the thought of a tantruming blog – I hope yours continues to be wonderfully well behaved and wise beyond its years.

  13. 11/09/2010

Happy, happy blogging anniversary, Steph and Tony! Here’s to many more years! Like many of the other commenters I have far too many books as it is, but what the heck… I’m playing along anyway πŸ˜› I’d love to be entered for a copy of A Letter of Mary, because you know how much I love that series.

  14. Eva

Congrats on your blogiversary! I feel a bit selfish entering, since I entered last year and won, but I cannot resist the possibility of owning my very own copy of The Blue Castle! Plus, it’s Canadian and you’re Canadian, and we both loved it: so it’s a match made in heaven. πŸ˜€

  15. 11/09/2010

WOW! Congrats on the blogiversary – how exciting!! And what a great way to cap off the celebration with a giveaway – Bazinga! I’m going to throw my name into the hat and ask for a copy of Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World by Haruki Murakami – I love his work and am in need of another fix. Cheers to you both!

  16. 11/09/2010

Love your blog. Congratulations both of you, love Nicola.

  17. Happy belated blogiversary! I shall decline to enter your generous give-away as I won last year but good luck with the terrible twos.

  18. 11/10/2010

Congratulations on your milestone! I love the way you’ve set up this giveaway and am excited to enter. Thanks!

I would choose All the Names by Jose Saramago. I’m reading Death with Interruptions now and have Blindness in the wings. I’m kind of in love with Saramago’s bizarre writing style, the way he sets up his stories, and his habit of breaking the fourth wall. I would love to read All the Names, especially after reading your review of it!

  19. Amy

Congratulations on turning two! Your blog is immensely enjoyable. I find it a wonderful spot to find honest reviews about books I’m considering and many that are new to me.
My pick, if I win your lovely giveaway, is The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O’Farrell. I was thrilled to see and read your review many months ago. I enjoyed O’Farrell’s debut, After You’d Gone a couple years ago and have always meant to read more!

    Here’s to another literary year!
    ~ Amy

  20. 11/10/2010

I would love to read The Bee Keeper’s Apprentice.

  21. Nathalia

(Hey! Wow, I was looking your reviews aaaaaand you’ve reviewed my favorite book — The Basic Eight <3 so much love!)

I'd love to read Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer πŸ™‚

    Oh, happy blogoversary :D!!

  22. kay

Oh Happy Blogoversary! πŸ˜€ Can you believe it’s already been two years? I remember discovering your blog just a few months after you created it, and it’s been a favorite place of mine around the web ever since. Congratulations, and here’s to many, many more years I hope! πŸ˜€

As for a book, would I be lucky to win, I would love Kraken, so I could share it with the Man of the House, too.

Congrats you two! (love the picture, by the way πŸ™‚ )

  23. mee

Happy Blogiversary! I love reading your reviews and browsing through the big list was a good chance to catch some that I missed before I started following your blog!

I would love to be entered for Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami, as I told you I wanted to read it but my library and I haven’t got a copy!

  24. 11/15/2010

I just realized that I stumbled upon your blog during your giveaway a year-ish ago. Huh. And all month, I was vying for Bulgakov, haha. [The time zone computation is odd for me, as I suck at math, so if I make it to the deadline, I’d love Great House!]

  25. 11/16/2010

Steph, Tony, I’ve been out of the book blogging world for the last couple of weeks and missed this great landmark. Congrats!

It’s too late to enter the competition, but I’d still like to let you know which were my favorite reviews. There are two in particular that come to mind and I can’t decide which one I prefer: Red Hook Road and Dead Until Dark (which got me giggling uncontrollably!)

Count me in on the 3-year annyversary!

  26. 11/22/2010

    Belated happy blogiversary!!!!! <3 <3 <3
