As you know, I've recently taken up knitting, but what you may not know is that I've taken it up with a vengeance. I have come a long way since my days of a simple ribbed K2P2 scarf... Now I have cable knits, entrelac, and even a dog sweater to add to my growing list of knit projects.  Below are the two projects I recently finished: a cable knit merino wool scarf for Tony, and a hoodie that was meant for Emmy Lou, but due to a misunderstanding about how to take dog measurements, wound up being more appropriate for Rory. I think we all know what this means... Cue Kelly Kapoor from The Office chanting: "Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at lunch!" (Click the pictures to enlarge!)

The dogs (and Tony of course) make great models. So darn cute.

    How adorable! 😀

Poor Emmy! She must be so disappointed. I hope you’re knitting something for her STAT.

    Cuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!

I love the fall colours of Rory’s hoodie (talk about being a lucky dog!). Excellent work, Steph!

Wow, your knitting needles have been very busy! All of your projects look great, and the colors are awesome too. I am going to have to get back into the knitting swing, what with the colder weather approaching. I love the dog sweater!

I am so impressed. Everyone looks fabulous in your creations! If I didn’t live in California I would want to knit a doggie sweater for my puppy!

These photos capture the essence of the bug perfectly. And I am so impressed, Steph! Knitting wizard!

A hood! That’s precious! Well done Steph!

    Awesome work!

Too cute for words! And you’re all set for a future dystopia in which the sun is blocked out and the temperature on the earth drops precipitously….

Blimey! You’ve been busy. That hood is brilliant!

That’s pretty impressive, Steph! Love how you dove head first into the world of knitting. But that is the best way to do almost everything in my opinion. Moderation is really over-rated. :)And the photos are as always wonderful!

Ooh I can’t believe you have a Welsh Corgi. That’s my dream dog. We’re not in a good place to have a dog right now, but someday. Maybe then I’ll knit a hoodie for it too 😉 (I like the colors of yours!)

@ Thomas: I really just look for excuses to post pictures of the dogs… and Tony! Surely you can see why!

@ Amanda: You’d better believe our dogs know they’re adorable… and incorrigible!

@ Trisha: So far Emmy is dealing with her lack of sweater admirably. Once I go on another yarn buying jag, I will certainly pick up some more for her and start on an extra special sweater for her!

@ Sim: Thanks! The colors in Rory’s sweater are actually a bit girly (there’s some hot pink and purple), but in the picture they certainly look more masculine…

@ zibilee: I’ve been so busy with the knitting! Pretty much whenever I’m not reading or cooking, I’m knitting. Especially when we watch tv!

@ Kathleen: I don’t let weather stop me! I doubt Rory actually needs a sweater given all of his fur, but that was hardly a deterrent!

@ Abby: Bug is the most photogenic dog ever… it’s ridiculous! Also, I will be certain to make Herr Coop a sweater for winter 2010/2011!

@ Alex: I agree that the hood really takes this sweater over the edge. I had considered not doing it because it was extra work, but it was too cute not to!

    @ charley: Thanks!

@ rhapsody: Bring on the dystopian future… Oh wait, I’ve yet to make anything for myself yet, so give it a few more weeks!

@ Nicola: Thanks so much! I have definitely been knitting up a storm, and I see plenty of hoods in my future!

@ Frances: I think my foray into knitting is an accurate reflection of me in general – I always like to push myself and keep learning things, so with each project, I try to learn something new!

@ mee: Just know that Rory is our “nightmare dog”! Just kidding! But he’s very clever and therefore has a tendency to be too smart for his own good! 😉

You’re amazing Steph! That dog sweater is adorable!
I didn’t know you were a fellow knitter, and I have to say I admire your patience with cables. I absolutely hate doing those! I love to do lace work though.

Looks like all your models are pretty well behaved.

Oooh, you’re walking my Emmy Lou on a harness now! And a nice pink one, at that. Well done!

  19. 10/11/2010

@ the Kuehns: Well, I had to keep offering Tony treats to get him to sit still, but it was worth it… 😉

@ taryn: Well, you know Emmy Lou deserves pink! It’s just so pretty! (Also, I am choosing to ignore your continued belief that she is your dog… 😉 ).

My (wife’s) dog is so jealous.

  21. 10/15/2010

@ Kerry: Oh, don’t worry. Emmy is totally jealous that she is sweater-less (and that the sweater that was meant for her is now her brother’s), so dog jealousy abounds!
