I promised I would let you all know when my interview with Jasper Fforde was up on the BookPage website (I know you've all been on tenterhooks waiting), so I'm happy to let you know that the happy day has arrived!ย  Those of you coming down from your Shades of Grey reading highs will likely find this just the ticket to maintaining your Fforde buzz!ย  I think Friday just got a little bit happier! ๐Ÿ˜‰ The interview can be read here!

  1. Friday did get a little bit happier! I am definitely coming down from my Shades of Grey high and needed this to tie me over until the reading and signing on Monday. Perfect timing.

It is a definite departure but one that pays off. It is darker than his other two series but just as -if not more so- inventive and humourous; I found the last few chapters unsettling in their darkness and that last page? wow. I have more to say but I’ll leave it for my review ;).

I’m so envious of your interview, Steph, and enjoyed it lots!

  2. *humorous even (us Brits like our superfluous “u”s but not that one.

I find your enthusiasm for Fforde so adorable! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love it when book bloggers gush over their fave authors, hehe. You can bet if I got to interview, say, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, I would have an obscene amount of exclamation points in my post.

Nice interview! I can’t wait to read this one.

@ Claire: I’m so envious that you get to see Jasper on Monday – I hope you write about it on your blog! I need these vicarious experiences! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I agree with you that this series definitely felt darker – Jasper seemed a bit surprised when I remarked that, but I’m with you: those last few chapters go quite bleak, and I actually felt were rather sad! But I also think that his risk has paid off and that he has certainly grown as an author.

    Looking forward to your review!

@ Eva: If gushing is what you’re looking for, well, you’re certainly in the right place! ๐Ÿ˜‰ For me, authors are like my rock stars (though I admit, I have some rock star crushes too!), so it was really such a treat to get to do this!

@ Amanda: I’m glad you enjoyed the interview, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this one when you get the chance to read it!

Great interview Steph. I’m rather behind on Fforde, only having read his first two which I liked immensely. This one with a new world totally of his invention sounds brilliant!

@ Annabel: This is definitely a brilliant new book by Mr. Fforde, and I think that if you’ve enjoyed his previous works then you’ll really like this one. It’s so nice to see he’s not a one-trick pony but really a writer with a whole lot to say!

Oh! I just loved that review and interview! It sounds like he is really proud of this new book, and I do have to admit that it sounds fascinating. Only Jasper Fforde could come up with something like this, and I am looking so forward to reading it. Great job, Steph. It’s so cool and amazing that you actually got to have a conversation with him about his work!
